Did you know

Pae's favourite Thai film director is ML Bhandevanop Devakula.

Few would deny that 27-year-old Arak Amornsupasiri (Pae) is one of the hottest local stars around. From his beginnings as the dek naew guitarist with indie rock band Slur, Pae has developed as a successful solo artist and one of the most in demand actors in the kingdom.

Pae's popularity skyrocketed when he starred in last year's romantic comedy blockbuster, Sudkate Salateped.

Opening in cinemas this week is Pae's latest romantic comedy, 30+ (Single on Sale), which also stars popular actress Chermarn Boonyasak (Ploy).

Student Weekly recently caught up with Pae to talk about his latest film, due to hit cinemas on October 13.

Student Weekly: Can you tell us about the character you play in 30+?

Pae: I play a grilled pork vendor named Juud. He's been through a lot in life, but he's a funny and easy-going guy. His friend Eng, played by Ploy, has just been dumped by her boyfriend. She's just turned 30 and is starting to worry about whether she'll ever get married. Juud decides to help Eng find a new boyfriend.

Student Weekly: What makes this movie special?

Pae: It's a light-hearted, feel-good film that I'm sure many people will love. The story is something that really happens in Thai society, so it's an easy film to relate to.

Student Weekly: How did you go working with Ploy for the first time?

Pae: It was our first time working together, but we've known each other for a long time, so it was easy. I didn't feel too nervous. She's a really good actress and very professional. It was a great experience working with her.

Student Weekly: You've acted in many different types of films. Is there a particular genre that you'd still like to try?

Pae: I want to try acting in a biopic. You'd have to do a lot of research about the person then totally change your personality to become somebody else. That would be really challenging.

Student Weekly: How is your music going with Slur and your solo project at the moment?

Pae: I have about 15 new songs ready to record for my second solo album, but I haven't had time to record them yet. Slur are still touring at the moment, but we won't do any new recording until early next year.

Student Weekly: You seem to have a very busy life, but what do you like to do when you have some free time?

Pae: I don't go out partying any more. When I have free time, I like to hang out with family or my girlfriend. I'm also having piano lessons at the moment. I always find time to play and write music.
