His incredible performance earned him millions of dollars in endorsements, including a $1 million bonus from Speedo for winning the eight gold medals.

Following his studies at the University of Michigan and the Beijing Olympics, Phelps returned to his hometown of Baltimore to help coach at the North Baltimore Aquatic Club.
