Rats invade resort town

Officials in the resort district of Hua Hin in Prachuap Khiri Khan have announced plans to deal with the local rat problem.

No place to go

Tourists pack Phuket International Airport on August 31. Anti-government demonstrators grounded flights from the airport for two days.

Hua Hin city officials have received complaints from consumers, vendors and shopkeepers about the large number of rats living inside sewer pipes around the famous Chatchai Market.

Some locals believe that at least 1,000 rodents live in the sewer pipes, carrying diseases that are a threat to people.

City deputy mayor Athikhun Butraying said that a professional pest control company from Bangkok will begin ridding the area of rats on September 19.
