Lampang hit with rain run-off

Forest run-off inundated more than 400 homes in Lampang on October 22. Residents in Mae Wa sub-district were caught off guard as the water gushed into the villages of Mae Wa Lum, Mae Wa Laeng, Mae Wa Denchai and Padungraj Rangsan.

Water levels rose quickly to about one metre in most areas. The run-off was triggered by an overnight downpour. Mae Wa official Khachornsak Khamdee said his community was struggling to deal with its second severe flood of the year.

Many residents had no time to move their belongings to higher ground when the floods arrived at 5 am, Khachornsak said, adding that they were not expecting more floods this year.

Bodies found after accident

The bodies of two South Korean tourists missing after their tourist boat hit a fishing boat on October 19 near Koh Phi Phi have been found, police said on October 21. Police said the bodies of Yu Win-wo and An San-yong were discovered on October 21 in the wreckage of the speedboat.

The accident occurred on October 19 when the speedboat crashed into a fishing boat in the Andaman Sea between Koh Phi Phi and Phuket. The speedboat sank about 30 minutes after the collision and 20 tourists were injured. Police said the Korean tourists had suffered serious head injuries.

Illegal work

Couple arrested at mall

Police arrested a man and his wife at MBK shopping mall in Bangkok. It happened on October 22. The couple was arrested for luring people to work overseas without work permits. They also obtained money from their victims.
