Villagers want action
Villagers in Nakhon Ratchasima are renewing calls for authorities to look into the impact of salt processing plants on rice production.
Villagers in the northeastern province believe that salt production over the past 20 years has caused widespread soil damage and created sinkholes.
Villagers from Non Thai district filed a complaint with the National Human Right Commission three years ago asking the agency to investigate the case.
An NHRC investigation concluded that eight salt processing plants in the district should be closed and that the operators should pay damages to affected villagers. However, no progress has yet been made on the matter.
