Uncle Sa-ing reaches Ayutthaya
Hundreds of Thais from all walks of life are flocking to Siriraj Hospital each day to wish His Majesty the King a speedy recovery after his recent operation.
Sixty-three-year-old Sa-ing Harnpakhon is one of them but he is getting rather more attention than the others. That is because he is walking from his home in Phrae's Den Chai district, a trip he began on October 12.
Yesterday "Uncle (ลุง) Sa-ing," as he is affectionately known, reached Ayutthaya province. There, at a PTT petrol station at kilometre 30 of the Asian Highway in Bang Pa-in, he received a very warm welcome from the provincial governor and a large crowd of local residents.
He received two shirts honouring the King, one yellow and one pink. He also received a health checkup since Uncle Sa-ing is a diabetic and has to carefully control his blood-sugar level. And, of course, he received a massage for his aching feet and legs.
