Britain’s Got Talent gets silly

A closer look.

Thailand’s Got Talent isn’t the only member of the franchise making headlines for strange performances and happenings.

Saturday night was the final of the 2013 edition of Britain’s Got Talent (BGT), so millions were watching as Welsh singing brothers Richard and Adam Johnson began their performance of "The Impossible Dream."

Just as they were ending their song, a woman came out from behind, walked between them and began pelting the judges with eggs – apparently aiming for chief judge and the show’s creator Simon Cowell.

She must have had some practice because she appeared to hit her target. Cowell was seen changing his jacket shortly afterwards.

It turns out the egg-thrower was Natalie Holt, a viola player in the orchestra accompanying the Welsh brothers.

She apparently was in the BGT competition last year, but was eliminated during auditions.

BGT show organisers quickly issued a statement quoting Holt as saying "I want to apologise to Richard and Adam for overshadowing their performance.  I’ve never done anything like this before and in hindsight I have realised it was a silly thing to do".

Later, however, she sounded less repentant. Speaking to the Telegraph she explained: “I basically took a stand against people miming on television and against Simon and his dreadful influence on the music industry".

The show went on without further interruptions and Richard and Adam, who remarkably continued singing throughout the egg attack, finished third.

You can watch the Richard and Adam segment here. The egg-throwing begins at about the one-minute, fifty-second mark.

The winning performance by the Hungarian shadow-dance troupe Attraction, is well worth watching as well.
