Bomb suspects caught on video

Songkhla police on Monday released footage of two men suspected of carrying out the car bomb attack at the Lee Gardens Plaza Hotel on Saturday, naming one as being wanted for questioning on other attacks.

The suspects, both estimated to be 170cm tall, were caught on the hotel’s security cameras as they were walking upstairs from one of the five underground parking floors, Level B4, which is close to the spot where the deadly explosion took place, and exiting through the entrance ramp of the parking lot.

The men were wearing jeans, black jackets and black caps to cover their faces.

One of the suspects has been identified as Jaemah Wani, a resident of Songkhla’s Chana district, who is alleged to have been involved in insurgent attacks in his hometown. Police are still trying to identify the other man.

No parking ticket was given to the driver when the vehicle entered the carpark. Police said staff in the ticket booth may have failed to notice it.

Police on Sunday identified the owner of the car used in Saturday’s attack as Thanasorn Kuasook, ex-deputy chief of Choeng Khiri tambon administration organisation in Narathiwat's Sri Sakhon district.

He was killed by suspected militants in his hometown on Oct 23 last year and his car was stolen.

Further investigation found Thanasorn’s car was used as a getaway vehicle in a gun attack on a defence volunteer base in Yala’s Raman district on March 9 that left two defence volunteers dead and six firearms stolen. The car was also involved in an attack that killed a resident of Pattani’s Mayo district a few days earlier.
