The quest of dragon
mythology

Hi and welcome back to our Web Master Talk column. This week I'll be talking about a famous game series that rivals even the extremely popular Final Fantasy series.

I'm pretty sure every gamer (even casual gamers) has heard or played one of Final Fantasy games. Having 13 main episodes and more than dozens of spinoffs, is hard to ignore, don't you think? But anyway, there is another series that has been in the game ecosystem for as long, or even before, Final Fantasy's time: Dragon Quest.

Dragon Quest is a series of role playing game that has been in the game market for 26 years, since 1986. And it has been very popular among Japanese gamers since then. To exaggerate things, Dragon Quest is even more popular than Final Fantasy in Japan.

Dragon Quest is a series about Dragons, Heroes, magic and adventures that forces you to venture forth in its wild world with an abundant of monsters roaming and hiding behind every corner of stones.

This is a role playing game, so you'll start off pretty weak and fragile. You will be easily defeated by this series' authentic monsters, such as slimes. Then you'll eventually develop your strength, vitality and magic power enough to overcome the hardships you'll encounter along your adventure to save the episode's princess or the world. The adventure in this game's series won't be easy and you'll definitely die often. Luckily, this game was blessed with priests that will revive you when you fall by the hand of monsters, with a price of cause.

I've play this series since I'm around 7 years old and that a long time ago. I started playing Dragon Quest game since its first episode and, at that time, the text in the game was only in Japanese, which was kind of hard to guess what was going on, but now you can easily find English versions of the games.

This Dragon Quest series has its unique charm that lures me back to it again and again. Its over-the-top fantasy and light hearted humour is very addictive and easy to get in to and also suitable for everyone in the family. The games in this series will drain a lot of your time, without you knowing it, by giving you a good fill of great fantasy stories and to strengthen your heroes by fight monsters will even take even more time from you, not to mention solving plenty of hidden mysteries and secrets in the games.

I just recently cleared episode VI after clearing episode IX a few months before, each took more than 40 hours to kill the final bosses, which got me to have lack of sleep for a few nights.

I would definitely recommend everyone to try out this Dragon Quest series. And basically this series is easy to plunge into; due to simple but deep game play (I'll explain this in future Dragon Quest reviews).

To latest episode of this series is Dragon Quest 9: Sentinels of the Starry Skies that came out on 2009 for Nintendo DS. Try is one out if you have a Nintendo DS or emulators that play DS games.

Give Dragon Quest a try!

Until next time, have fun with your games.
