Did you know

The most common gift given to fathers is a necktie.

A father always plays a significant role in a child’s life. His great support can encourage a child to chase their dreams and never give up until reaching the goal. Many great songs have been inspired by the artist’s fathers or by the artists becoming fathers themselves.

To celebrate the upcoming Father’s Day on December 5, Student Weekly picks the best songs about dads.

Song Title: "Daddy"

Artist: Beyoncé

The pop diva Beyoncé included this soothing song on her first solo album, Dangerously in Love, in 2003. The lyrics are about Beyoncé being very close to her dad since she was very young. When she made any mistakes and looked for comfort, he was always there for her. In the song, she sees her dad as a role model and wishes that her son and a husband can be just like him.

Song Title: “Mother & Father”

Artist: Broods

The sibling duo from New Zealand who performed in Thailand last month penned this song for their 2014 album Evergreen. The song describes how they’ve missed their home and parents since they left them to live their own lives. It’s never easy to be apart from our family, but to stand on our own two feet is an important part of being an adult.

Song Title: "Just the Two of Us"

Artist: Will Smith

The song was rearranged from the classic track by Bill Withers. The new 1997 version kept the hook from the original song and added rapping by Will. Compared to other rough and wild rap songs, this song is very sweet. The song expresses how Will felt when he became the father of his first son, Trey. While he had mixed feelings of joy and worry, he vowed that he would love and support his little boy forever.

Song Title: “Father”

Artist: BtoB

The ballad “Father,” sung by K-pop heartthrobs BtoB, tells the story of a guy who notices that his father is getting old and becomes weak and feels lonely, but his dad still pretends to be strong. The guy feels sorry that he doesn’t pay attention to his dad who dedicated himself to him. He decides to hug his dad and tells him that he loves him.

Song Title: "Choo Jai"

Artist: Golf Fuckling Hero

"Choo Jai" is another song inspired by an artist becoming a father. Golf named the song after the name of his little girl. The rap adds a beautiful hook from the old song "Lap Ta (Close Your Eyes)," by veteran singer Charus Fueangarom. Golf wrote this song to encourage his girl to not give up even though she will face difficulties in this cruel world. He believes that she will overcome everything because she’s strong. He also promises that if she has problems, he will be a shoulder to cry on for her.

Song Title: “Krang Sood Tai (God Only Knows)”

Artist: Stamp Apiwat

Many listeners may think this song is a heartbreak story about a couple who don’t see each other again after breaking up, because the song doesn’t contain words like dad or father. However, Stamp revealed that he wrote this song for his dad who left home and didn’t return. Because the singer wasn’t aware that it was the last time he would see his father, he didn’t say goodbye. Stamp hopes that the song will remind listeners to treat their loved ones like every day is the last day.
