Japanese businessman knocked from bridge

A Japanese businessman was critically injured when he was hit by a train and fell five metres from the River Kwai Bridge in Kanchanaburi on May 22.

Haruhisa Saito, 52, is being treated in a local hospital for broken ribs and head injuries.

During a tour of the Death Railway, Haruhisa stopped at an elevated section of the track to take a photograph, oblivious to the train approaching him from behind. The train then knocked him off the track.

Family rescued after yacht hits rocks

Four members of a Spanish family have been rescued after their yacht ran aground off Libong Island during a severe storm on May 21.

The yacht, carrying a husband and wife and their two children, was travelling from the Malaysian island of Langkawi to Phuket when the storm forced it onto rocks, said Abdulroheem Khunraksa, the village headman of Libong Island.

Abdulroheem immediately alerted marine police and mobilised local residents to help bring the four tourists to safety.

Four drug traffickers arrested

Three men were arrested in Bangkok. They were arrested for drug trafficking. Police reported the news on May 21. Police seized 100,000 speed pills.
