The novel of Les Miserables, by French author Victor Hugo, was first published in 1862.

After winning numerous awards, the critically-acclaimed new film version of the classic musical, Les Miserables, is set to be released locally. The film was directed by Academy Award-winning director Tom Hooper, and features an all-star cast.

Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Miserables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams, unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption.

Since breaking his parole, an ex-prisoner named Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman) has been hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Russell Crowe). When Valjean later agrees to care for Cosette (Isabelle Allen), the young daughter of factory worker Fantine (Anne Hathaway), their lives change forever.
