Did you know

Last year, T.O.P played a gambler in the movie Tazza: The Hidden Card.

Unlike many K-pop groups, the iconic Big Bang is famous for fantastic performances with no lip-syncing and backed by a full live band. The veteran group is also a trendsetter in music and fashion.

Recently, the five members of the band — leader G-Dragon, 26, rapper T.O.P, 27, singer Taeyang, 27, Daesung, 26, and Seungri, 24 — released the long-awaited album Made and toured the world. Their concert, Big Bang 2015 World Tour (Made) in Bangkok promised to be world class as the production team included LeRoy Bennett, who has worked with top stars like Paul McCartney, Beyoncé and Lady Gaga. And the results were remarkable, making it the best K-pop show in Thailand this year.

GANGSTER THEME

The concert was held on July 11 and 12 at Impact Arena, and Student Weekly attended on the first day. A cool gangster video opened the show, with the Big Bang members looking splendid in sleek black suits. The guys were in a car being chased by a sexy female gangster. They escaped into a building and after a burst of gunfire the video introduced the guys one by one. Dressed in smart red and black outfits, the guys appeared onstage and belted out one of their new singles from Made, “Bang Bang Bang.” The fans screamed crazily and danced along with them.

MASSIVE HITS

With their 22 marvelous songs including their massive hits like “Haru Haru,” “Tonight,” “Fantastic Baby” and “Loser”, the show satisfied their VIP fanclub as well as the rest of the crowd.

The Thai VIPs were extremely happy when the guys performed two new singles, “If You” and “Sober,” for them since they had never performed these songs anywhere before. “If You” was an emotional ballad and everyone in the group, except the rapper T.O.P, could sing it beautifully. In fact, T.O.P’s singing in “If You” was the only tiny flaw of this terrific show.

PERFECT PRODUCTION

This extravagant show was well-designed in all aspects, from the video, chic costumes, smooth choreography and stunning production to the lighting. Two transparent moving stages acted as movable bridges so the guys could walk above the crowd. The group are great entertainers and their endless energy kept the VIPs excited throughout the show.

TEENAGE FANCLUB

Aside from Big Bang, the VIPs made the concert more fun. They always sang loudly and danced along with the band. Their great interaction made the guys very happy. G-Dragon thanked the fans for their support and love. He said the fans were amazing and that night was the best show ever. However, we heard that the next day, G-Dragon changed his mind and said that the second show in Bangkok was the best instead!

THAI TALK

Big Bang is one of few K-pop groups that can communicate with Thai fans without a translator. Some of the guys, especially Taeyang and G-Dragon, can speak English quite well, but Seungri was the best at Thai. Taeyang told the fans that he had been waiting for a long time to meet Thai fans and Thailand was one of his favourite countries. The youngest member of the group, Seungri, complimented the incredible energy of the fans. He then said that some people thought he talked too much, but he knew that the fans paid a lot of money to see the show. And he knew that the fans also complained that their concert tickets were very expensive. So, he used this chance to tell everyone in Thai that he loved them and thanked them for coming to the show.

PARTY TIME

Before the encore, during the song “Bae Bae,” some fans held up a card that said they liked the show and asked if the guys liked the show as well. The guys answered by singing “khob khun khap” in melody of “Bae Bae,” making the fans scream with joy. The guys ended the show with their fun dance song, “We Like 2 Party.”

Student Weekly gives a thumbs up to the guys for their superb entertaining skills. This was a great show that left fans wanting to see more even though it didn’t need the usual provocative dancing or showing of six-packs.
