Fisherman rescues couple

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has applauded the heroism of a fisherman from Krabi who rescued an elderly Norwegian couple stuck in thick mud along the Krabi River, a government spokesman said on October 18.

Prayut said Chat Ubonchinda should be praised for his courage. Chat’s action sets an example for other people to follow, he said. The rescue took place on October 16 when Chat lay face-down in the mud and let the pair put their weight on him so they could pull their legs free.


Forest murder

Suspects surrender to police

Two of the three men suspected of killing a forest protection official in Phu Khieo Wildlife Sanctuary in Chaiyaphum province have surrendered, police said on October 18.

Arthit Klangsin, 31, and Song Klangthong, 38, surrendered at a forest protection unit in Chaiyaphum province on October 18. The remaining suspect, Boonleng Saithongkhoo, 48, is still at large.

Police, military and forestry officials launched a manhunt after Prasit Khummoo, 49, was shot dead. The three suspects were allegedly trying to illegally chop down protected trees.

Thieves target store
