Rare find

Sea turtles make a comeback

A rare species of sea turtle recently returned to Prachuap Khiri Khan's Thap Sakae district after disappearing for almost three decades.

"We found more than 200 of the turtle's eggs on the beach, which is a phenomenon we have not seen for decades," local villager Sureerat Taechootrakul said on May 15.

Sureerat said that the eggs may have reappeared because the beach has been cleaned up.

Bad business

Ferry operators lose customers

Ferry operators under the Taksin Bridge complained of a drop in income with the opening of the new BTS line to Wong Wian Yai on May 15. The operators said they might have to change jobs if people continued to avoid the boats in favour of the train.

The extended route from Taksin Station to the newly-constructed Wong Wian Yai Station will serve commuters free of charge for three months. Ferry operators are worried that customers will not return to using the ferries after the free-ride period ends.

A skytrain crosses the Chao Phraya River on the Taksin Bridge from Thon Buri to Bangkok. The electric train's new extension to Thon Buri started operating on May 15.
