Body parts found in parcels

Authorities are looking into the origins of a human skull, foot and heart preserved in formaldehyde discovered in boxes at the Rama III branch of international courier DHL on November 15.

Police suspect the body parts were stolen from a medical school then sold to foreigners who planned to send them home as gifts.

Metropolitan Police Bureau official Srivara Rangsipramanakul said on November 16 that he had set up a special squad to trace the origin of the body parts, which were sent for examination to King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital’s Forensic Medicine Department.

Human rights scheme endorsed

The cabinet has endorsed the Justice Ministry’s approval of the launch of the National Human Rights Plan, which will be effective until 2018, authorities reported on November 13.

The plan focuses on preserving and enhancing fundamental human rights and human dignity. Relevant government agencies are required to help adopt and implement the plan, and authorities must submit to the government an annual report on what they have done to fulfill their obligations.

The Justice Ministry is responsible for outlining the methodology for putting together the reports.
