Truck wheels kill woman

A food vendor was killed when a pair of loose wheels from a lorry smashed into her food cart on the outbound Bang Na-Trat highway in Chachoengsao’s Bang Pakong district, police said.

Prasert Yulap, 47, from Sukhothai, was found dead near the entrance of Hanawa Electronics Company. The wheels were found 10 metres away from the body.

A witness said that she saw two wheels rolling away from a green lorry which was using the express lane, bouncing into the parallel lane and hitting the food vendor and her cart.

Drought centres set up

Provincial authorities have established drought response centres across 32 districts to help residents prepare for the upcoming dry season.

Nakhon Ratchasima provincial governor Winai Buapradit has instructed the chiefs of 32 districts in Nakhon Ratchasima to survey households that are likely to be affected by drought. No districts have yet been declared drought-affected.

Of the 32 districts, Phimai, Khon Buri, Soeng Sang and Pak Chong are under close watch for signs of drought. Winai planned to draw up guidelines to encourage farmers to plant crops and vegetables that consume less water.

Student killed on the road

An 18-year-old student was killed in a road accident. It happened in Pathum Thani on February 16. His motorcycle slipped on the road and a truck ran over him. He was on his way to take an O-NET exam.
