Bomb targets government workers

A recent bombing that killed four village defence volunteers has led to heightened security in Pattani's 12 districts, authorities said on November 13.

The bomb attack, which also injured four volunteers in Pattani’s Khok Pho district on November 12, forced authorities to tighten security in areas near communities, schools and stores.

According to an initial investigation, the bombing apparently targeted people working for the government.

Three people died at the scene and one person died in hospital.

Thais replace foreign teachers

The Education Ministry plans to recruit its first batch of 500 Thai teachers who will teach English in state-run schools nationwide to reduce the cost of hiring foreign English teachers, officials reported on November 12.

Deputy Education Minister Teerakiat Jareonsettasin said that the Thai English language teachers will be selected from public schools across the country to take part in a six-week intensive programme designed and taught by the British Council's English specialists.
