On November 25 this year, the moon will be full and Thai people will enjoy celebrating Loy Krathong Day. During this well-known festival, small rafts, or krathongs, will be seen floating in waterways throughout the kingdom.

For this week’s Exercises, SW recommends some of the popular places to float your rafts in Bangkok.

COLOURFUL NIGHTLIFE

In addition to students, general members of the public are welcome to take part in Loy Krathong events held in the evening at Kasetsat University located in Bangkhen district, Chulalongkorn University situated near Siam Square and Ramkhamhaeng University on Ramkhamhaeng Road.

These three universities have large ponds and scenic views that are perfect for Loy Krathong. The universities each year are proud to present stage performances, different booths held by student clubs, as well as a beauty contest called nang noppamas.

FUN PARKS

Twenty-nine public parks under the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will hold Loy Krathong Day activities, allowing the public to float rafts into their ponds.

Those who prefer to float rafts at a large, green park full of trees are encouraged to go to Lumpini Park near MRT Lumpini Station, Saranrom Park on Charoenkrung Road, Wareepirom Park in Klong Samwa district or Wanatham Park in Prawet district.

RIVERSIDE ROMANCE

If you'd like to float your raft in the Chao Phraya River and take some selfies in a vintage atmosphere, you can spend Loy Krathong Day at Asiatique The Riverfront on Charoen Krung Road in Bang Kho Laem district.

Apart from the nearby river to float krathongs and a fireworks display, the venue will also provide a number of statues and backdrops for visitors to take photos, as well as restaurants and souvenir shops. For more information, visit www.thaiasiatique.com.
