New hotline launched for foreigners

The government has launched a new multilingual hotline to receive complaints from foreigners, hiring staff who speak English, Japanese and Chinese, authorities reported on March 11.

The 1111 hotline service was officially opened at a press conference on March 11 by Prime Minister’s Office deputy permanent secretary Chamroen Yutithamsakul. He said the hotline is for general complaints such as tax refund issues and immigration procedures.

Staff will forward the complaints to the relevant government agencies. The service has already been operating on a trial basis for six months.

Tourist’s bag snatched

A Chinese tourist has filed a complaint with police after a thief snatched her shoulder bag containing cash and valuables worth about 50,000 baht in Pattaya on March 10.

The 51-year-old woman told police that she was walking near the mouth of Soi 16/3 off Pattaya-Na Klua Road in Bang Lamung district around midnight when a man on a motorcycle snatched her bag.

She said the thief made off with about 7,000 yuan (36,800 baht) and 1,000 baht in cash, a diamond-studded ring, and a Buddha amulet and travel documents. Bag snatching is reported to be common in Pattaya.

Alien labourers steal gold

Police arrested four Burmese people. It happened on March 8. They previously stole gold ornaments from a shop in Nonthaburi. The suspects were arrested at a construction site in Chonburi.
