Did you know

Ant is the most skilful dancer in Shuu.

Attention pop devotees! There’s a sexy and elegant new girl group on the scene called Shuu. Their recently released second single is “Kae Meow (Just Kitten),” and its music video has already gone viral with more than two million views on YouTube.

The up-and-coming six-member group — Warinda Noenphoemphisut (Ant), 17, Sirikwan Techapatanarat (Kwan), 21, Suthada Jongjaiphar (Oey), 20, Rachaneekorn Phrasawang (Pear), 21, Ananya Saowaparkmaneewong (Goodie), 20 and Noppawan Chumnanchang (Nok), 24 — has plenty of feisty attitude, as can be seen with the long hair, black leather jackets and high heels featured in their latest video.

Shuu recently visited the Student Weekly office to chat about their new song, their group and their quick rise to stardom.

Student Weekly: Can you tell us about your new single, “Just Kitten”?

Oey: It’s our second single, following on from our debut single, “Dot Dot Dot,” which came out last August. I think we’re moving toward more of an electro dance sound with our new song.

Ant: We also added traditional Thai percussion to the song to make it sound more interesting. It’s a song that will make listeners want to tap their feet or nod their heads. It’s so catchy!

Student Weekly: The video for “Just Kitten” is very successful. Can you tell us about the cat-inspired dance moves in the video?

Pear: The cat dance came from the words of the song, where we tell guys not to be afraid to talk to us. We might have strong personalities, but we’re not tigers — we’re more like kittens. We can be sweet and gentle. [Laughs.]

Student Weekly: Each of you was chosen from 3,000 competitors who auditioned for Shuu. What did you do to impress the judges?

Oey: During the audition day, you could tell right away who the truly talented people were. For example, everybody noticed Ant right from the start because there’s something special about her. She’s very pretty and a really skilful dancer.

Student Weekly: You all like to dress in black. What’s the main idea behind your look and fashion concept?

Ant: Our concept is modern women who are smart, beautiful, sexy and mysterious. Each of us wears a matching black dress to go with the concept.

Student Weekly: Who are your musical idols?

Kwan: Taylor Swift is the queen of pop for me.

Oey: I’m a huge fan of powerhouse singers, so I’ve always loved Beyoncé. She’s really talented at both singing and dancing.

Goodie: Pear, Nok and I love K-pop a lot. Our favourite girl groups are Girls’ Generation, After School and T-ara.

Student Weekly: What makes Shuu stand out from all the other girl groups?

Oey: We’re six beautiful individuals with enormous personalities and lots of energy.

Kwan: Our music, style, look and concept represent a new generation of women who are confident and never afraid speak out.
