Kids have their say

Almost 90 percent of children say they don’t aspire to a career in politics, with many believing the job to be boring and marred by petty squabbling, according to a Suan Dusit Poll.

The findings, released on January 9, showed that about 61.5 percent of respondents thought politics is dull and blighted by bickering. About 19 percent believe that politics is pushing the country backwards and making people miserable.

Another 15 percent said politicians are selfish and corrupt and set bad examples for the public. The poll surveyed 1,337 children between January 6 and 8.


New citizens

Official ID cards issued

A total of 193 displaced Thais were given citizenship and identification cards to become full Thai nationals. Trat provincial governor Benjawan Anprueng on January 9 presided over a ceremony to grant them Thai nationality in Muang district.

Muang district chief Apirat Apisammawong said a total of 467 displaced Thais have been registered in the district. Of them, 193 were granted Thai nationality.

Displaced Thais in Trat are Thais who had lived in Cambodia’s Koh Kong province, which was formerly part of Siamese territory before France seized control of the area.

No school

Classes cancelled temporarily

Many schools in Bangkok temporarily closed for safety reasons. Classes at 146 schools were suspended on Monday 13. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration announced the news on January 8. Officials were worried about students during the anti-government protest.
