In brief: Born in South Korea, this 25-year-old pianist, violinist and singer emigrated to Australia at the age of 9. She began studying music at Griffith University’s Young Conservatorium of Music programme. Dami won the Nora Baird Scholarship and the Queensland Piano Competition. She later finished a Bachelor’s degree in music and a master’s degree in contemporary voice at the University of Queensland. In 2010, Dami released her debut album, Dream, to raise money for churches in South Korea. The singer became more widely known after winning the The X Factor Australia 2013 singing contest. Her self-titled album reached No. 1 on the Australian Albums chart. The album’s lead single, “Alive,” also reached No. 1 on the Australia singles chart.
