Zhangjiajie is one of the most scenic cities in northwestern Hunan province of China. The city is surrounded by a large area of mountains and hills where there are plentiful natural resources.

For Freeze Frame this week, SW explores some of the most popular spots in Zhangjiajie.

Situated in the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Mount Tianzi is 326 metres high. Visitors can reach the top of it by using a glass-sided lift.

Huanglong Cave has four separate levels. The cave’s highlight is a 19 metre limestone pillar, which is the tallest in the cave.

Tianmen Mountain is famed for its breathtaking views. To reach the top, visitors have to clamber up no less than 999 steps.

The Tujia Folk Custom Park exhibits the culture and architecture of Hunan’s ethnic minorities.

The Tianmen Fox Fairy Show is an outdoor performance held at the foot of Mount Tianmen at night. The show uses a great number of lights, and the cost of electricity for a single show is around 900,000 yuan (450,000 baht).
