Renowned First Love director Puttipong Pormsaka Na-Sakonnakorn is back with his latest supernatural romantic comedy for Sahamongkol, Oh My Ghost Khun Pee Chuey.

As well as featuring comedy, romance and ghosts, Oh My Ghost Khun Pee Chuey is also a touching story about an unusual friendship.

The film stars 28-year-old actress Celine Horwang (Cris) as Bee, a model from Bangkok who has a traffic accident. Bee’s spirit leaves her body and she tries to communicate with her lover with the help of a medium named Kitty, played by comedian superstar Tukky Sudarat Budtporm. The movie also features 32-year-old Anusorn Maneethed (Yong), best known as the singer with popular indie pop group Armchair.

Student Weekly recently caught up with Cris and Yong at the Oh My Ghost Khun Pee Chuey press conference to talk all about the making of film, which is due to hit cinemas on November 28.

Student Weekly: Can you tell us about the plot and your characters in Oh My Ghost Khun Pee Chuey?

Cris: The movie is basically about two women whose lives are connected. My character is Bee, a model who has an accident. Her spirit leaves her body and finds Kitty (Tukky), who is the only person that Bee is able to talk to. Bee hopes that Kitty will help her to contact her boyfriend.

Yong: I play Korn, the boyfriend. Korn doesn’t realise that Bee’s spirit is in Kitty’s body.

Student Weekly: Why did the filming take more than half a year to finish?

Cris: Most Thai films only take a few months to shoot, but this film was an exception. Some of the actors, especially Tukky, were so busy that it was quite difficult to find times when everybody was free to work on it.

Yong: The project started around March this year, but the actual filming didn’t really begin until July.

Student Weekly: Yong, how did you feel about your first acting experience?

Yong: It was great. It was also very different from what I expected. Acting is much more difficult and complicated than I thought it would be. Just remembering the script and trying to portray my character naturally was pretty tough.

Student Weekly: Cris, is it true that you helped to coach Yong in acting during the filming?

Cris: No, I hardly helped him at all. [Laughs.]

Yong: Yes, it’s true. Cris thinks that she didn’t help me, but she really did. Cris and Tukky both helped me a lot with good tips and advice. I was really nervous at first before filming, and they taught me how to relax and act naturally.

Student Weekly: What was it like working with top comedians like Kom Chauncheun, Koh Tee and Tukky?

Cris: Working with them was really fun. They’re all super talented actors!

Yong: It’s a shame that I didn’t have many scenes with them. As a singer, I usually don’t get many opportunities to meet or work with these people. I’m such a big fan of Kom Chauncheun. I love his work a lot.

Student Weekly: Do you guys believe that ghosts really exist?

Cris: I don’t know if they’re real or not, but I do know that I’m really scared of them! [Laughs.] Normally I wouldn’t accept acting roles in horror movies. I don’t think I’d be brave enough to shoot at a cemetery at three o’clock in the morning.

Yong: I can do anything. I’ve never been afraid of ghosts or supernatural things.

Student Weekly: Why should people see Oh My Ghost Khun Pee Chuey?

Yong: It’s not just a typical comedy movie that throws a bunch of gags together. The film has a good story about unusual buddies — friendship between a ghost and a human.

Cris: You’ll love the comedy in the movie, especially the scenes where Kitty walks the streets arguing with the air, talking to the walls and having hissy fits in public.
