Editor's note

I hope everybody had a great summer break, because it's back to reality now. Back to long hours sitting in the classroom. Back to books. Back to homework. Back to long commutes in busses, cars, skytrains and subways. In all honesty, I'm glad to say better you than me.

I always hated going back to class after term break. One of the best things about having my years of education behind me is that I'll never have to face that feeling again.

I’m sure that lots of you are happy to be getting back to class. There always have been, and always will be, people like that.

To be honest, once the school year got rolling, I really didn’t mind being in class. I was a good student, and enjoyed a lot of my classes. Unfortunately, a lot of my classes were way too easy for me, so I ended up getting lots of extra work from teacher's who’d caught on to that fact.

So I hope that, however you feel about being back in class, your upcoming term is a good one. Make the most of all the opportunities you're given.

We’re glad that you're making Student Weekly part of your ongoing English-language education. Every week, we'll work hard to bring you all the entertainment and education features that we hope will make learning fun.

As editor of this fine magazine, it's been my honour to lead the SW team that's worked so hard to bring you this magazine every week. I’ve been here for more than 10 years, and in that time I've overseen a whole lot of these beginning-of-term issues. So it’s with mixed emotions that I’m now announcing that this will be my last back-to-school issue here at Student Weekly.

In a few week's time, I will end my run of editor of this magazine. I’m moving back home to the US. Thailand has been pretty kind to me since I moved here in 2003, but all good things must come to an end, and I’m rapidly approaching the end of my time in the Land of Smiles.

This isn't my final Editor’s Note, but it is my final one in a back-to-school issue — and I feel I’d be remiss if I didn't honor that in some small way. So welcome back to class, and have a good semester.

This isn't goodbye. Not quite yet. But it’s getting closer.
