Did you know

Sung Jin named his guitars Atom and Baron.

Day6 are the first band created by Korean music label giant JPY Entertainment, famous for making Rain, Wonder Girls and 2PM well known internationally. Day6 released their debut album, The Day, and their first single, “Congratulations,” last September.

Since there are many Thai fans who support artists from JYP, Day6 decided to visit Thailand for Day6 the 1st Live and Meet in Bangkok, their first event in the Land of Smiles, held on December 12.

FAN FUN

At Muangthai GMM Live House, the six members of Day6 — leader and guitarist Sung Jin, 22, guitarist Jae, 23, keyboardist Jun Hyeok, 22, bassist Young K, 22, synthesiser player Won Pil, 21, and drummer Do Woon, 20 — opened their showcase with the heavy beat-driven “Out of My Mind,” before chilling out with their songs “Habits,” “Like that Sun,” and the fun track, “You.”

Apart from performing their songs, the guys had fun by playing a game against each other. The team that lost had to dance in front of the fans, who were happy to see their funny dances since Day6 are a band and not a dance group.

LOCAL HIT

The highlight of the show was when Day6 performed the Thai song, “Mai Bok Thoe (Don’t Tell Her),” originally by Bedroom Audio and best known from the soundtrack of Hormones. Even though many Korean groups have sung Thai songs for their fans before, Day6 were the first Korean band that played their own instruments to do it. The fans reacted wildly to the song, screaming with joy and singing along loudly.

SWEET MOMENTS

Thai fans are known for being sweet, and for this event they prepared special gifts for Day6, including a well-made video which featured stories of the guys from their time as trainees until they became Day6 and met their Thai fans for the first time.

Since Young K's birthday is in December, he received a cake, while the band got another cake to celebrate 100 days since their debut. The guys appreciated all the impressive gifts.

Leader Sung Jin said it was unbelievable that they had already be going for almost 100 days. He added that without love from the fans, they wouldn’t have reached this point where they could perform in Thailand. Sung Jin said the band loves their Thai fans and that they hope to move forward together.

While they were in town, Day6 also held a press conference at Dusit Thani Hotel. Here is some of what the guys said at the press conference and at their fan meeting.

Question: How do feel about having your first press conference here?

Sung Jin: It's the first time that we've talked in front of many people like this. I'm very excited.

Question: Are you excited about holding your first fan meeting in Thailand?

Sung Jin: I visited Thailand for the first time with my friends two years ago. This time I'm here for a showcase. I'm very proud of this event.

Question: Apart from Sung Jin, what did other members think about Thailand before visiting?

Jae: I expected to ride an elephant!

Jun Hyeok: I like shopping, and I heard that Thailand has many interesting stores. Also, there are a lot of good massage places here.

Young K: I used to stay with the members of Got7, and the Thai member, Bam Bam, cooked Thai food for me. I've tried pad Thai and pad see ew.

Won Pil: I heard that Thai people are really concerned about good manners. I'd like to ride on a tuk-tuk while I'm here.

Do Woon: I thought that people would be riding elephants in the street. I want to ride an elephant.

Question: Did you expect such a great welcome from Thai fans at the airport?

Sung Jin: I was really surprised to hear their loud voices. We were impressed with the number of fans that welcomed us.

Question: Where does the name Day6 come from?

Jun Hyeok: Six represents number of people in the band. So if six days of the week are us, the seventh day of the week represents our fans.

Question: Does your band have a particular concept?

Sung Jin: Other bands may have one or two vocalists, but everybody in Day6 sings.

Jun Hyeok: We can all write songs, and that gives us different styles of music to play. This means that it can take us a long time to make music, but it gives our music plenty of variety.
