Police catch smuggler

A man was arrested with more than 500 kilogrammes of marijuana worth 10 million baht, officials reported on January 9.

Sathaporn Wongsrila, 20, of Nakhon Phanom, was apprehended after a navy patrol team spotted three men carrying fertiliser sacks from a boat in the Mekong River.

Three other men were seen waiting to receive the sacks. When patrol officers asked to conduct a search, the men fled, leaving 12 sacks behind. The officers gave chase and caught Sathaporn.


Future infrastructure

Ministry chooses major projects

The Transport Ministry confirmed that infrastructure projects to be incorporated into the 100 billion baht Thailand Future Fund will be decided in February.

Permanent secretary Chatchai Thipsunawee said on January 8 that he has instructed all of the ministry's agencies to provide a list of road and rail projects they want included in the scheme by next month.

Chatchai said the ministry will discuss the funding scheme next month, which aims to raise 100 billion baht through local and foreign investment.
