Did you know

Jeff studies jazz at Rangsit University.

The Demo Project label received great feedback when they released songs by rising stars Split, Fah and Carol. The label’s latest offering is an 18-year-old singer named Worakamol Satur (Jeff), who has a catchy and romantic song called “Lok Tak (The End of the World).”

Jeff stands out with his husky voice and playful personality. The music video for his song, which also stars hot actress Kao Supassra from the TV series Hormones, has attracted masses of viewers on Kamikaze’s YouTube channel.

Student Weekly recently met up with Jeff at the Kamikaze office, where he told us about his new life in the music business.

Student Weekly: How did you become interested in studying jazz music?

Jeff: Jazz music has a big variety of sounds, which helps me to improve my listening skills. There’s also a lot of improvising with jazz. But you need to learn all about chords before you can improvise.

Student Weekly: Can you tell us about your first live performance?

Jeff: I played guitar in a band at school, and we were scheduled to perform at the school. I was looking forward to it and practised every day. But on the day of the performance, the drummer didn’t want to do it. I really wanted to play, so I eventually convinced the drummer to get onstage. I felt happy singing in front of the audience and hearing them scream and sing along.

Student Weekly: Did you ever feel discouraged when you didn’t win music contests?

Jeff: No. I’m still young, so I can always improve.

Student Weekly: What was it like working with prominent producer Thana Lawasut?

Jeff: I was thrilled to work with a great producer. After chatting with him, he came up with a song about flirting to go with my character. [Laughs.] He gave me lots of advice about singing techniques, because I’m more used to English language songs. I had to learn different ways pronounce Thai words when singing.

Student Weekly: You said in a video that you’d like to perform at a music festival if the world was going to end. Which festival would you like to perform at?

Jeff: I can’t remember the name of the festival, but I watched one on YouTube that was held in London. It was a big, extravagant event and a lot of streets were closed off for it.

Student Weekly: If you could sing with any artist at the festival, who would you perform with?

Jeff: Jessie J. She’s such a great entertainer.

Student Weekly: Did you enjoy doing the voice-over for the video that introduced you?

Jeff: Yes. I used to dream about being a voice-over actor, so I told the crew that I wanted to try it on the video. It was fun, especially doing the voice for the female character, because I looked funny doing it. The staff found it hard not to laugh while we were making it!

Student Weekly: Is it true that you like to read novels in your free time?

Jeff: Yes. I like fantasy and romance novels. My favourite books are My Guardian and Beastly. I once wrote a romantic fantasy story, too.

Student Weekly: Have you had any exciting experiences while performing live?

Jeff: At my first official gig, I performed with other singers from Demo Project at a show arranged by Channel V. There were lots of people there, and I was so nervous that my legs were shaking. I was worried that nobody would cheer when I got up onstage, but there were screams when I was introduced. I was relieved!

Student Weekly: Is there anything special you’d like to say about your first single?

Jeff: “The End of the World” is my first single, and it’s different from Kamikaze’s usual style. Some fans of the label might be surprised about this. I really worked hard on it, so please give me some support!
