SW visits Chiang Rai

Being home to many different ethnic groups, Chiang Rai is a major tourist attraction in the north of Thailand. The province boasts plentiful natural resources, popular sightseeing places and many interesting ways of life.

This week’s Freeze Frame explores some of Chiang Rai’s top tourist destinations.

Flower enthusiasts shouldn’t miss Mae Fah Luang Arboretum, which is situated on the peak of Mount Nang Nawn.

Chiang Rai features many mountainous areas where you can explore scenic views and breathe fresh, clean air. Phu Chi Fah is one of the highly recommended spots for great views.

Akha villagers in Mae Chan district wear their traditional costumes. Visitors can watch Akha women perform a bamboo-dancing show.

Buddhist pilgrims are encouraged to listen to Buddhist teachings and attend mediation courses arranged for both Thais and foreigners at Cherntawan Mediation Centre, which is located in Muang district and run by famed monk V. Vajiramedhi.

Winter flowers, such as the Himalayan cherry, grow well in Chiang Rai.

Doi Pha Mon is a poplar place in Chiang Rai where visitors can see part of the Mekong River as well as the border between Thailand and Laos.
