Letter of the week

AMAZING FATHER

My father is a teacher and hard working. He is busy every day because he looks after my elder brother who is physically handicapped. Although he is tired, he never complains.

He never leaves his son alone. He always encourages me to study English so that I will go abroad some other day. He works hard and saves money for the family. No one knows what the future will be like. I love him so much and would like to tell him that.

I love him. I am lucky to be his daughter.

Nantita Kannika,
Nonthaburi

Your dad sounds like an amazing man, Nantita. It's good that you appreciate everything that he does for you. I'm sure that he's very proud to have a daughter like you. — Editor

SO MANY OF US

As I was doing some research for an essay, and I was shocked that Thailand was in the top 20 countries with the highest population in the world. I also realise that the world population will double within another century or so.

This is quite scary, and I think as a whole we need to do something about it.

Teera Siribunsuk,
Bangkok

Overpopulation is a very serious problem, Teera. It's going to be extremely difficult to feed the growing population of the world, especially with the problems that are being caused by climate change. I hope that we as a species can find peaceful ways to face the troubles we're up against in the future. — Editor

HOLIDAY CHEER

I can tell that Christmas is coming because there are decorations all over the city. I think that most Thai people don't really celebrate Christmas — at least not the way that people in Western countries do.

But people here really like the colourful decorations and the lights that are outside of so many stores and malls. They enjoy posing for photos in front of them. I think that's fun.

Sittichai Aumphiphat,
Bangkok

Thai people certainly do like getting into the holiday spirit, Sittichai. I don't think it's necessary to have a traditional, Western Christmas. In fact, there are lots of different ways that people celebrate the season all over the world. As far as I'm concerned, there's really no wrong way to enjoy the holidays. — Editor
