Did you know

From 1952 until 1969, the United States Air Force investigated UFO repots in an operation called Project Blue Book.

What would you do if you found out that your best friend came from a different planet and that his people plan to invade Earth? That’s exactly what the characters have to deal with in director Nareubadee Wetchakam’s new movie, Soob Ku Gu Lok.

The latest Sahamongkol Film is a sci-fi comedy about a motorcycle gang that accidentally becomes involved in a mission to save the world from an alien invasion.

Soob Ku Gu Lok stars top comedians Nakorn Silachai and Mum Jokmok as two hilarious bikers, while their mysterious grandson and his girlfriend are played by newcomers Poom Rangsrithananon, 18, and 19-year-old Apa Bhavilai (Maggi).

Student Weekly recently met up with Poom and Maggi to ask them about the making of Soob Ku Gu Lok, due to hit cinemas in November.

Student Weekly: Can you tell us a bit about your backgrounds?

Poom: I’m a third-year student at ABAC University. Before this film, I was in a teen gangster movie called Meung Gu [My True Friend].

Maggi: I’ve been in a couple of TV dramas and one feature film before. I also work for Chic Channel.

Student Weekly: What are your characters like in Soob Ku Gu Lok?

Poom: I play two characters in the film. The first is Pong, a troublemaker and a biker. He’s the grandson of a bike repair shop owner named Jodd, played by Mum Jokmok.

The other character I play is an alien who replaces the real Pong. He’s come to Earth with a secret mission.

Maggi: I play a 15-year-old student named Noey, who is falling in love with Pong. She goes out with both versions of Pong without realising that one of them is an alien.

Student Weekly: Are the characters you played much different from your real-life personalities?

Poom: Pong is quite rebellious and has a bad boy image, which probably similar to me. [Laughs.] But the alien version of Pong is quite dumb. He doesn’t show any emotions and doesn’t know anything about our planet.

Maggi: Noey is very different from me. She’s pretty silly. She keeps flirting with Pong, which I’d definitely never do in real-life!

Student Weekly: Where was Soob Ku Gu Lok mainly filmed?

Maggi: Mostly in Chanthaburi and Bangkok.

Poom: We stayed in Chanthaburi for about a month. We both enjoyed our time there very much. It’s so beautiful, with beaches and lots of countryside.

Maggi: Our director came from Chanthaburi, and he said there are lots of stories about people seeing UFOs there in the past. That’s why he picked that area as the main location for this film.

Student Weekly: Do you guys believe that aliens really exist?

Poom: I totally believe that aliens exist. I find it hard to believe that out of all the billions of planets in the universe, ours is the only one that has life on it. The universe is massive and we can’t be the only planet with the right conditions to support life.

Maggi: I agree.

Student Weekly: What are some of your favourite movies to watch?

Poom: I love crazy films like Trainspotting and Fight Club. I also like the new teen comedy movie, Project X.

Maggi: I like all kinds of films, except for romantic Korean movies. They’re too boring!
