Did you know

Fluke has been dating Laotian actress and model Sisangien Sihalath (Apple) for 10 years.

Jira Danbawornkiat (Fluke) has come a long way in his showbiz career as an all-round entertainer. From his days as a member of boy band C-Quint to being a model and TV show host, Fluke has established his versatile talent and is now one of the most sought-after actors in Thailand.

Well-known for his roles in many TV dramas on RS’s Channel 8, the 30-year-old actor is back in the new comedy, Sapai Rod Sab (Spicy Daughter-in-Law), playing opposite beautiful upcoming actress Gaewalin Sriwanna (Jean).

Student Weekly recently caught up with Fluke at RS headquarters and asked him all about the making of Spicy Daughter-in-Law, his acting career and a C-Quint reunion.

Student Weekly: How many series have you done with Channel 8?

Fluke: A lot! I guess Spicy Daughter-in-Law is the 10th TV drama that I’ve been in. It’s pretty scary to think how fast the time has passed.

Student Weekly: What does the name Spicy Daughter-in-Law mean?

Fluke: If you watch the show, you’ll know. It’s a comedy focusing on the tricky relationship between a mother and her daughter-in-law. A typical daughter-in-law should obey their husband’s mother, but that never happens in this show. There’s a silly battle between the two women with the husband and son trapped in the middle.

Student Weekly: What’s your character in the show like?

Fluke: I play Pankorn, a policeman from a wealthy family. He falls in love with Mew (Jean Gaewalin) and decides to marry her. Mew is an orphan who comes from a poor background and Pankorn’s mother doesn’t appreciate that. That’s the beginning of all the chaos.

Student Weekly: Have you finished filming the show?

Fluke: Not yet. Five episodes have already aired, but it’s still being shot at the moment. My schedule is so hectic. I’m hoping I won’t get sick and ruin the show.

Student Weekly: Do you enjoy your acting career?

Fluke: I enjoy it quite a lot. I’ve been very fortunate to have the opportunity to do this since there’s no C-Quint anymore. Compared to other actors, I have to admit that I have less skill. I got my first TV role right after I left the band. More roles kept coming and I barely had time to take any acting classes. The only way I could improve my acting skill was to give it 100 percent attention when I’m working.

Student Weekly: Is there any moral lesson in Spicy Daughter-in-Law apart from the comedy?

Fluke: Mother and daughter-in-law jokes are the clichéd staples of comedians but they hide the real battles that can happen to any family in modern society. But as this show is fiction, they make the story more fun and interesting by making it more extreme. It’s just a comedy show, so don’t take it too seriously.

Student Weekly: You recently said that you miss C-Quint. Is there any chance of a band reunion?

Fluke: It could be fun, but I doubt that it will happen. Most C-Quint members are out of the RS contract already and everybody in the band is busy with their lives. I’ve been asked about this many times by fans and I feel bad for them. They’ve been waiting to see the band onstage for years, but it’s never happened. I still love singing, and it’s possible that I might release music as a solo artist someday in the future.
