Did you know

Gypso sings the song, “Wanna Be Someone Important to You,” from the show.

Puttichai Kasetsin (Push) is one of the most wanted actors in the kingdom. His popularity has risen rapidly since he played the charismatic Pi Suea in Perfect Match and Kongpop in the TV series, Roy Lae Sanae Rai (Vicious Charm).

With his unpretentious acting and great chemistry with his co-star, Ariigantha Mahaplearkpong (Gypso), his latest romantic comedy TV series, I Wanna Be Sup’Tar (I Wanna Be a Superstar) has attracted huge numbers of viewers.

In I Wanna Be a Superstar, Push plays a former superstar, Win, who turned his back on showbiz after he was falsely accused of having a gay relationship. Gypso plays the pretty Wannueng who dreams of being a superstar, but has no talent. Win and Wannueng inadvertently have to stay in the same house. They develop feelings for each other, but it gets complicated because Win’s gorgeous ex-girlfriend May wants him back.

Student Weekly recently interviewed the busy 29-year-old Push and 26-year-old Gypso via email. The actors told us about their roles and how they feel about each other.

Student Weekly: Did you ever dream about being a superstar like Wannueng?

Push: Never. I dreamed about being a MC and a DJ to begin my career. Then I got the opportunity to be an actor. My life has changed a lot and now I feel like the higher I go, the harder I could fall.

Gypso: At first, I didn’t have any dream to become an actor. But now, my goal is to improve my acting skills.

Student Weekly: How would you describe each other?

Push: Gypso works hard and gives her all to the show, but she’s crazy and hilarious like Wannueng. Working with her is a lot of fun and when we’re together, I’m in a good mood.

Gypso: I was told to be careful of Push because he’s playful and likes to play pranks on people. In fact, he’s very professional. I respect his diligence and his efforts to improve himself.

Student Weekly: Is it difficult to work on a TV series that is still filming even though it is already on air?

Push: This is my first time to work like this. There’s a lot of pressure, but the quality of the team and the crews’ dedication help.

Student Weekly: Which character has been the most difficult to play so far?

Gypso: Wannueng is the most difficult because this is my first TV series. To perform for 26 episodes is tough. I believe that if I can get through this, it will be a great experience. The role has also helped me to understand more about being an actress and I feel lucky to get to this point.

Push: The drama, Puea Thoe [For Her] is the most difficult because my character has a lot of emotional scenes and I have to cry in almost every one. I have to work on For Her at the same time as I Wanna Be a Superstar, so it’s exhausting to switch my mood from comedy to drama.

Student Weekly: Push, how did it feel to surf on the show?

Push: I surfed in Phuket for the first time in my life because it was a scene in this series. It was fun because I like extreme sports. I felt like I was fighting with the waves.

Student Weekly: Gypso, how do you feel about working as a DJ at Cat Radio?

Gypso: It’s very difficult. I have to prepare stories to share with the audience, but I’m happy because I work with music and the crew really supports me.

Student Weekly: Have you had any unforgettable experiences?

Push: Once at the radio station I had to work in the dark during a blackout. There was a generator, so I could still play music, but it was scary to work in the dark alone.

Student Weekly: Gypso, why did you decide to be a vegetarian?

Gypso: I saw that Jay Montonn was happy to eat only fish and eggs. He didn’t have any problems with it. So, I tried being vegetarian for a week and it’s now been five years.

Student Weekly: What makes I Wanna Be a Superstar interesting?

Gypso: It’s a series that brings happiness. Wannueng is a character that I really love.
