Located in the northwest of Malaysia, Penang has an interesting mixture of modern arts, old architecture and multi-cultural history. The capital, George Town, is a UNESCO World Heritage site with plenty to see.

For this week’s Freeze Frame, SW takes a look at ways of life and sightseeing spots in Penang.

Henna painting is one of the activities that tourists can enjoy while wandering around George Town.

Buddhist pilgrims are encouraged to worship Kuan Yin, the Goddess of Mercy, at Kuan Yin Temple.

Restaurants in Penang offer a variety of food. Recommended dishes include bak kut teh (a herb-infused soup of park spareribs) and dimsum (small bite-sized portions of food served in small steamer baskets).

One of the most scenic viewpoints of the city is the top of Penang Hill, which you can reach by taking a train.

Street art such as small paintings and wall murals can be found on many streets in George Town.

One of the popular spots in Penang is Glow Penang café and restaurant, which is dazzlingly decorated in a contemporary style.
