General public allowed to host funeral rites

His Majesty the King has allowed aristocrats, state agencies and the general public to host funeral rites for Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana, the Royal Household Bureau said on January 6.

Following the seven-day royal ceremony, the funeral rites will be held every Wednesday until the 100-day memorial ceremony, which falls on April 11.

The Royal Family, aristocrats and government agencies may host the weekly funeral rites.

Members of the public my host daily rites, which start on April 12 and run until the royal cremation ceremony.

Boulder smashes into temple

A temple in Tha Muang district, Kanchanaburi, filed a police complaint against a rock quarry operator over a recent blast that caused a large rock to smash into the temple.

Prayut Chuenkam, 58, director of Wat Kao Kanhok, reported the incident to police on January 4. He said that a rock, about one metre in diameter smashed through a concrete wall and came to rest in the middle of the main hall.

The temple�s deputy abbot blamed the the incident on Silasomboonsap quarry , which was blowing up rocks on a nearby mountain just before the mishap.

Life worth saving

Vets fight to save gaur

Veterinarians are trying to save the life of an 8-year-old gaur. It spent a week stuck in an animal trap in Khao Ang Rue Nai wildlife park.

Forest rangers found the animal on January 3. It weighed about 900 kilogrammes. The gaur was starving and had an injured leg.

Wildlife officials sent the injured gaur to the animal hospital in Chon Buri province.
