Suspicious device

Fake bomb found

What appeared to be a bomb planted on an electricity pole in Phatthanakan Road on April 1, causing a minor panic, was in fact fake, police said.

Metropolitan Police Bureau commissioner Sriwara Rangsiphramanakul along with superintendent Metha Jeamkraisri inspected the scene at the mouth of Soi Phatthanakan 65.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal officers were called for support. EOD officers said the device was made up of seven tissue roll axles bundled together. They were attached to a stopwatch and electric wire, making it look like a bomb.

Investigators said they were reviewing CCTV footage of the area.


Damage done

Bomb blasts rock Pattani

Four explosions shook Muang district of Pattani early on April 2, causing extensive damage to vehicles and shophouses, police said.

The bomb attacks appeared to be coordinated, occurring almost at the same time, at about 2 am on April 2.

The bombs may have been retaliation for the killings of four suspected militants in a clash with security officers in Thung Yang Daeng district on March 25, police said.

Grounded flight

Plane hit by food truck

A Thai Airways International plane was damaged. It was hit by a vehicle carrying in-flight food. It happened at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris on April 2. Passengers who were booked on the THAI flight were transferred to other airlines, officials said.
