Paste problems

Shrimp dyed in Krabi

Authorities have ordered manufacturers of kapi, or shrimp paste, to recall their products from the market after they were found to have been contaminated.

Speaking after a random quality inspection at local markets in Krabi province, a public health official at Krabi Public Health Department, said on October 4 that seven samples of shrimp paste collected from local markets in the province were contaminated with dye.

Shrimp paste is one of the most popular Thai ingredients.

Students welcome change

Most students recently surveyed by Chulalongkorn University back the government's class-hour reduction pilot project and play down worries over having less time for their studies, a survey said on October 4.

Of the 2,089 secondary school students surveyed, 76.4% agree with the cuts to in-class learning and increase in extra-curricular classes after school, said Bancha Chalaphirom, dean of the Faculty of Education. The survey also found 58.7% are not concerned about possible effects on their learning performance if they skip afternoon classes.
