Did you know

Poppy was considered for the girl group Kiss Me Five.

Star singer from pop trio 3.2.1, Chatchaya Songcharoen (Poppy), enjoys hanging out with her mom, Chanya Ployratana (Muay). The 18-year-old singer has always been close to her mother because they share similar interests and dreams.

Poppy grew up in a family of music lovers, so she started singing and dancing lessons at a very young age. Poppy soon started dreaming of becoming a professional singer, while Muay also wished to see her daughter on the stage.

“When I was 8, my mom took me to a Bird Thongchai concert,” Poppy said. “I wanted to be like the person on the stage, who made the audience scream with happiness.”

SOLID SUPPORT

Poppy eventually auditioned for Kamikaze after a talent scout spotted her at a singing school. During her training, plans were made to launch Poppy as a solo singer. When those plans fell through, Poppy, who was 15 at that time, was ready to give up her dreams of being a professional singer.

“We were both devastated by the news and I told my mom that I’d had enough,” Poppy said. “But mom persuaded me that there’d be another chance.”

Poppy said that she started practising even harder after that, until she was finally offered a great opportunity.

“I failed several auditions, but I was finally chosen to be part of 3.2.1,” she said. “I’m very thankful to mom for her great support.”

PARENT’S PRIDE

Rather than speaking sweetly, Poppy and her mom like to tease and make fun of each other. However, when asked what they were proud of most about each other, they both felt overwhelmed to the point of tears. Poppy was speechless, while Muay covered up her emotional moment by giggling.

“I’m proud that my daughter is a singer and that people admire her,” Muay said. “I’m also proud that she’s studying at Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Science.”

In the future, Poppy hopes to study for her master’s degree overseas.

PROUD POPPY

After drying her tears, Poppy joked that she was proud of her mother for putting up with her. She also mentioned that her mom’s encouragement always helps her to overcome bad days.

“When I complain about being tired after a long day, mom tells me to remember the time before I became a singer,” Poppy said. “At that time, I wanted this life so badly, so I should try my best to work hard and stay successful for as long as I can.”

SLEEPY SINGER

Though Poppy and her mom get along well, Muay sometimes has trouble with her daughter’s lack of punctuality.

“Poppy is normally mature, but I have to warn her about being punctual often because she has trouble getting up in the morning,” Muay said. “I often worry whether we’ll be on time for an appointment.”

MOM COMES FIRST

When it comes to guys, Poppy always lets them know that if they want to win her heart, they have to win over her mother first.

“If they can’t win over my mom, there is no hope,” Poppy said.
