Tom Odell may not yet be well-known in Thailand, but the talented British singer-songwriter and pianist has attracted plenty of attention with his debut album, Long Way Down.

The 23-year-old singer won the critic’s choice prize at the 2012 BRIT Awards, while his first EP, Another Love, was a smash hit, with the title-track’s simple video attracting more than 26 million views on YouTube.

Long Way Down opens with “Grow Old With Me,” a beautiful ballad with heart-warming lyrics about lovers happily growing old together. All 13 tracks on the album reveal Tom to be an honest and sincere singer. His songs are all about yearning, earnest love, reckless romance and the genuineness of adolescence. Tom’s romantic, soft voice makes every song charming to listen to.

The album’s last song, “Heal,” is about a heartbroken man who wants to move on and leave the past behind. Tom’s gloomy voice and sad piano playing portray the despair of the song well, ending the album on an emotional note.

Tom’s fragile but powerful voice will appeal to fans of artists like Ed Sheeran, Adele and Coldplay. Those who like emotional, piano-driven pop should definitely check out Long Way Down. — WC
