Did you know

Nann’s Instagram account name is Theconando.

Since taking part in Academy Fantasia Season 10, 23-year-old Sunantha Yuraniyom (Nann) has proved that her talent isn’t limited to just singing. In recent times, Nann has gained recognition with her modelling for TV commercials and acting in a number of TV dramas.

Well-known for her short haircut and unique tomboy look, Nann is equally popular with both male and female teens.

Nann recently returned to singing with the release of her new single, “Rue Wa Ther (Is It You?),” which is currently climbing the pop charts. She also has a new contract with Music Union Company Limited.

Student Weekly recently caught up with Nann at a coffee shop on Lad Prao Road to chat about her background, her new song and her upcoming release.

Student Weekly: Can you tell us a bit about your background before becoming a singer?

Nann: My mom wanted me to become successful in showbiz since I was a little kid. She took me to sign up with a modelling company and to many acting classes. Eventually I got some roles in TV dramas. I enjoyed that, but I didn’t really think that I wanted to do it as a career. Then my dad passed away, so I dropped everything and went back to finish school. After that, I decided to sign up for talent shows.

Student Weekly: What made you choose Academy Fantasia?

Nann: My friends encouraged me to give it a try. At first I signed up for The Star with one of my friends. I wasn’t serious about it, but I thought I’d just try it for fun. I didn’t make it through the second round, but I got a lot of good feedback from the audience and some new fans. I thought I should keep going after that, so I eventually took part in the AF competition.

Student Weekly: When did you first discover that you wanted to be a singer?

Nann: I didn’t realise until I had an opportunity to sing. When I was a kid I wanted to be a doctor, a pilot or a veterinarian. I tried acting because my parents wanted me to, but I didn’t enjoy it much. But when I tried singing, I fell in love with it. Singing makes me feel happy.

Student Weekly: Can you tell us about your single, “Is It You?”

Nann: It’s the first single released under my own name. I’ve sung a couple of TV drama soundtrack songs and had a song on an AF compilation with other friends, but this is the first time that I got to sing the type of song that I genuinely love. It’s about a lonely person who longs to have somebody to share their love with.

Student Weekly: Is it true that you recently started learning how to play the guitar?

Nann: Yes, and it’s super hard! [Laughs.] It’s more difficult for me because I’m left-handed, so it’s harder for my teacher to teach me. I’m working on it every day because I might have to play a guitar onstage when I release my second single.

Student Weekly: You’re known for carrying a diary around to take notes or write stories everywhere you go. Have you ever thought about writing a book or a novel?

Nann: I didn’t communicate much with people when I was younger, but I used to write a lot. I wrote everything that was on my mind, and they were usually bad thoughts. [Laughs.] I love taking notes and keeping a diary. I’m not so sure about writing a novel. I tried it once but I couldn’t think of how to end it. Maybe one day I’ll go back and finish it.

Student Weekly: When do you plan to release your next single?

Nann: My next single is called “Khao Rai Rue Plao.” It’s a cover of a Wasan Chotikul song, but I do it in my own style. It will surprise a lot of my fans because I sing it differently from the way I normally do. I hope everybody likes it!
