Letter of the week

FUTURE CHALLENGE

My nickname is James. Last year I really enjoyed my life. I wasted time playing iPad games and using social media, like Facebook.

Now I am in grade 11, so I try to revise a lot because I have lots of exams coming up next year. At the he start of this year I plan to read my lessons every day, quit playing games and use social media less than last year.

My goal is to become a doctor. I know that if I plan but never do it, it will mean nothing.

Jaruwit Siripornpokanan,
Nonthaburi

It sounds like you've got a plan, James. You've spotted what you need to improve about yourself and your behaviour, and you've already formed an approach to how you'll make those improvements. Stay diligent, and you've got a great chance to make your dreams come true. — Editor

GREEN SCENE

I think Bangkok has too little green space, and the traffic is very congested. Research has found that pollution can reduce IQ in young children and adults.

Every time my driver has to come and pick me up, he always complains about the traffic. I think this is a serious issue that needs to be solved.

Fewer cars should be sold each year, and people should travel on public transport.

Teera Siribunsuk,
Bangkok

There do need to be a lot fewer cars on the road, Teera. Not only is the traffic in Bangkok absolutely maddening, it's also really bad for all of our health. Taking public transport is one way we can help make it better. Another is simply to drive less often. — Editor

SAD STORY

I was very sad to hear the news of the AirAsia plane that crashed in Indonesia. Right now it is not clear what caused the plane to crash. Many reports that I have read make it seem that bad weather could have caused the crash.

I hope that the authorities find the plane and the bodies of its passengers and crew soon. Even though it is sad, it is better to have the families of the victims know the fates of their loved ones for sure.

Eddie Addisak,
Bangkok

It really is sad news, Eddie. While it is unusual for weather to cause a fatal crash, it does happen. As I write this, it seems more and more likely that weather was a factor. We probably won't know for sure for a while. In any event, remember that travelling by plane is still incredibly safe, and it's so much quicker and more convenient than most other modes of travel. — Editor
