Editor's note

I've been trying to eat better and take care of myself lately. It's not easy. Doing stuff that keeps you healthy tends to not be a lot of fun.

I'm not at all a fan of sports, and I hate playing them. That limits my exercise to the gym, which is slightly better. But I don't like the gym much either. Even the nicest fitness center has an unpleasant smell to it, I've found. Usually the music sucks, too.

Eating right is no picnic either — pardon the pun. Lots of the stuff that I like to eat isn't good for me. Red meat, potatoes and bakery items are just a few of my favourites.

Actually, I don't mind eating well, but it's a lot easier to do when I can cook for myself. In Thailand, it's almost impossible for me to get enough protein, unless I cook my own food. And white rice is served at almost every meal. Not a good thing for me to eat if I want to lose weight.

As I said, all of this is really not that big a problem as long as I can cook for myself, but it's hard to cook for yourself after a long day of not enjoying the gym and avoiding bakery products. Consequently, like many people, I end up either eating out or bringing something home that somebody else has cooked.

The more I let somebody else cook, the more I need to go to the gym. The more I go to the gym, the more tired I am. The more tired I am, the more I don't feel like cooking. The more I don't feel like cooking, the more I let somebody else cook.

See what I'm getting at here?

So, anyway, as I said at the beginning, I'm trying to take better care of myself lately. As you can tell, it's not exactly going that great.
