The four-piece UK pop-rock band Lawson released their successful first album, Chapman Square, in 2012. Recently they’ve made a special self-titled album, Lawson, which includes four new singles and their hit “Standing in The Dark.”

Album opener, “We Are Kings,” has a catchy pop beat and piano mixed with rock guitars. Vocalist Andy Brown’s smooth vocals help this song and the next, the upbeat “Under the Sun.” “Mountains” has a slower tempo as Andy sings encouragement to his lover that they can change. The hit from Chapman Square, “Standing in The Dark,” appears here too, and the single has a strong melody that you’ll want to sing along to.

Also included is the debut single, “Roads,” about Andy’s addiction to a girl and how he tries to leave, but finally goes back because all roads lead to her.

The album shows the band’s exciting and mature sound after an 18-month break. If you find Maroon 5 too edgy, then Lawson is perfect for you. — SK
