Did you know

“Mai Mee Tee Ma (Untitled)” was mastered at Sterling Sound in New York.

Remembering long-lost loves is a strange feeling. No matter how much time has passed, these thoughts can always return and affect us. The pop-rock group Ten to Twelve reflect on this strange feeling in their new single, “Mai Mee Tee Ma (Untitled).” Its music video featuring a dog being sent into space attracted more than half a million YouTube views within a month.

Student Weekly recently met up with Ten to Twelve members — 28-year-old singer Vasuphon Kriangprapakit (Mor), 31-year-old guitarist Torsak Panjasuparak (Tor), 28-year-old bassist Charnchai Chitpatanapaibul (Au) and 28-year-old drummer Pongpon Chongwatpon (Mon) — to ask them about their latest music.

Student Weekly: What have you been doing in the year since your last single “Ja Pen Ja Tai (Please)”?

Mor: We’re writing new songs all the time, but it’s the marketing plan that makes us release only a couple of singles each year. If a single is still doing well on the charts, we have to wait until the song drops out of the chart before we can release a new song.

Tor: We actually have the next song ready. It’s going to be a fun, danceable tune.

Student Weekly: Can you tell us about “Untitled”?

Mor: The song is about the feeling when we miss somebody for no reason, like when you travel or watch movies and somehow you just think about this person. You don’t know why you’re still thinking about them, and you don’t know how to deal with this feeling.

Tor: I’d call it a soft rock track. Although it’s a slow song, it still has a rock element to it. I put some delay effects on my guitar to make the song sound beautiful and vast.

Student Weekly: Mor, where did you get inspiration to write the song?

Mor: It came from my own personal experience. I’m the kind of person who loves writing a journal. One day while I was reorganising my bedroom, I found this short note that I wrote a few years ago which said, “The missing feeling has no origin. We might have a strong connection.” I thought that these could be perfect words for the new song our band were making at that time.

Student Weekly: The single is produced by Four of 25 Hours. Why did you decide to work with him?

Mon: We’ve worked with Four on a couple of singles already. He understands the sound that we’re trying achieve. Also, he’s our age, so there’s no pressure when we work together. We’re a good team!

Student Weekly: Who came up with the concept of the music video?

Au: It was our director, Yos. He said that after he listened to our song, he thought of a dog who's been abandoned. If we see a stray dog on the street we have no idea what memories he has. He might be as lonely as a dog that’s sent into space.

Student Weekly: In the video the dog’s owner is played by Meng, the drummer from the band Desktop Error. Why did you choose him?

Mor: Meng is a good friend of the band and our production team. We also heard that he’s one of the most talented actors of this generation. [Laughs.]
