People on September 1 attend an event held in remembrance of renowned conservationist Sueb Nakhasathien, the former chief of the Huay Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary. The event at the sanctuary in Uthai Thani marked the 23rd anniversary of his death.

Police seize pangolins

More than 100 live pangolins worth more than 1 million baht were seized from a pickup truck abandoned by its owner at a petrol station in Muang district of Khon Kaen on September 1.

Police spotted the truck parked at the petrol station. They checked the storage compartment of the truck and found about 50 boxes containing 102 pangolins.

It is suspected the driver was in the petrol station toilet when the officers checked the vehicle. Police believe the driver spotted them and decided to flee.


New route

Flights to aid trade

Border trade between Thailand and Myanmar is expected to rise following the launch of Nok Air’s Mae Sot-Mawlamyine flights on September 1.

Tak governor Suriya Prasartbundit, who was aboard the flight, said that cross-border trade will increase significantly ahead of the launch of the Mae Sot special economic zone and the Asean Economic Community. He was joined on the flight by about 30 Thai and Myanmar businessmen.

Suriya urged Thai businessmen to invest in Mawlamyine, especially for those in the hotel industry. He said demands for accommodation in Mawlamyine will be growing.

Illegal load

Rosewood trafficker arrested

Police seized 45 illegal Siamese rosewood logs. The trafficker was arrested in Nakhon Phanom province. It happened on September 1.The trafficker was hired to deliver the logs to Bung Kan province, police said.
