Road rage

Department refuses to pay up

The court on February 26 ordered the Highway Department to pay more than 30 million baht in damages to a company that it hired to build a highway.

BCDC Company Limited, the firm responsible for the first section of Thonburi-Pak Tho Highway 35, took action against the department after it failed to pay for the completion of the highway.

The department accused the firm of being behind schedule and of not following the contract. However, the firm claims that the delay was a result of repeated changes in the department's design.

Woman arrested over oil scam

The Department of Special Investigation arrested a businesswoman who allegedly ran a false crude oil investment scheme. The scheme resulted in investors losing 85 million baht.

Pinijnant Muenghong, 26, was one of 10 people wanted on a DSI arrest warrant. Pinijnant was charged on February 26 with misleading investors in her advertisements for the scheme.

Hill tribe villagers hold a ceremony on Chiang Mai's Doi Inthanon on February 27 to condemn the arsonists behind the lighting of forest fires. The fires caused thick smoke throughout the province.

Spoilt milk

Factory ordered to close

A milk factory has been ordered to close for 30 days. The factory is in Chumphon's Thung Tako district.

Lab tests showed that milk from the factory contained bacteria. The factory was fined 10,000 baht.
