The Thai Trends: From Localism to Internationalism exhibition, on display at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre from August 30 to November 4, features numerous artworks by many famous Thai and foreign artists.

Student Weekly recently went along to check out the exhibit, organised by the BACC and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to celebrate the 84th birthday of His Majesty the King.

Celebrated artist Silpa Bhirasri sculpted the face of King Rama IV in 1925. The King Vajiravudh sculpture is made of bronze.

This area of the exhibition displays biographies of famous Thai artists.

Lord Buddha Beyond Suffering and Happiness (Left) by famous Thai artist Chalermchai Kositpipat and The Wheel of the Law by Venetia Walkey are both beautiful bronze sculptures.

The Celebration for the City Pillar painting by Sompop Budtarad and Silver Crocodile, a sculpture by Raf Von Bueren, both show the influence of surrealism.

The colourful Mayan Taxi by Navin Lawanchaikul is painted with images and words from classic Thai movies.

The Shadow Play: Politics artwork by Chusak Srikwan satirises Thai politics and local politicians.

An art enthusiast looks at the colourful Daowadeung drawing, which uses a striking, golden motif.

The Elements of the Great Elephant 4 by Peth Viriya is carved out of wood.
