Vietnam donates money for monument

Vietnam has donated 45 million baht to build a monument of former North Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh in Nakhon Phanom in order to help boost tourism and its relationship with Thailand.

The budget was approved by Nguyen Phu Trong, general-secretary of Vietnam’s Communist Party.

Nakhon Phanom once sheltered Ho Chi Minh during his stay in Thailand in the 1920s before he returned to his country where he led a movement to declare independence from France. The monument is expected to be finished within two years.

Passenger caught with drugs

Customs officers at Suvarnabhumi airport on June 28 arrested a Thai woman suspected of trafficking drugs.

Salinee Phuangnil, 25, was found in possession of 3.15 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine, worth around 11 million baht, according to an official from the Customs Department’s Investigation and Suppression Bureau.

Customs officers arrested Salinee at about 6:30 pm as she was waiting for a flight to Laos. The drugs were hidden in her luggage. Salinee allegedly said she was paid 40,000 baht to transport the drugs from India to Thailand.

Holey road

Villagers call for repairs

A group of villagers staged a protest. It happened in Muang district of Nakhon Ratchasima on June 29. The villagers asked authorities to repair a road quickly. They also planted trees in potholes on the road.
