Letter of the week

SOMETHING TO CHEW ON

I really enjoy reading Student Weekly. I enjoy every column in the magazine. I would like to suggest the magazine to write a column about food or health. I think these types of columns are informative, and it would feature beneficial vocabulary. Also it is an interesting topic.

Anyways, please take this into your consideration. Thank you.

Kannika Wongpandeed,
Ranong

Those are some great suggestions, Kannika. Both of those subjects are interesting to readers of all ages. I know I enjoy reading about health-related topics. I'll be sure to pass your suggestions on to the new editor. Thanks for writing. — Editor

STRESS OUT

I always believe that stress is bad. It can lead to many illnesses, such as heart disease and cancer. We should all find ways to deal with it.

I saw an amazing video clip on YouTube that changed my way of thinking immediately. A guy did a TedTalk about stress and its effects on health. He said that if we view stress as something positive, there are many benefits to our health.

He said that stress is only harmful to the body if we approach it as something negative. I also read a book called The Upside of Stress, which changed lots of my opinions towards stress and many interesting facts and evidence of how the body can cope with it.

Teera Siribunsuk,
Bangkok

You seem to be a "glass half full" kind of kid, Teera. I agree that our point of view is very important in how we deal with our day-to-day lives. But sometimes it's hard not to get stressed out about things. — Editor

NUMBER ONE FAN

Two weeks ago Yasothon officials, led by the governor, welcomed the “To Be Number One” evaluating team. They were travelling here to assess the progress of the anti-narcotic campaign in some high schools.

Students play an important role, implementing anti drug activities in school and in their communities. They encourage all youths to do something creative, based on their interests — such as sports, acting, singing, dancing, etc. These activities help self esteem and help kids avoid drugs.

Uraiwan Rakwong,
Yasothon

That sounds like a great program, Uraiwan. I hope you and everybody else involved got a lot out of it. Drugs are a huge problem, and it seems to be getting worse here in Thailand. Hopefully, stuff like To Be Number One will help kids make good choices. — Editor
